Natural Gas Safety

Natural gas is one of the most eco-friendly energy sources in the world — but it needs a careful eye.

Beaches Energy is committed to keeping our customers safe. That’s why we follow state and federal regulations and perform extensive quality control checks. We also make it a priority to keep you informed on how to recognize and prevent natural gas leaks.

Signs of a gas leak:

Although natural gas pipeline incidents are uncommon, you should be aware of the telltale signs of a gas leak, such as the distinctive, rotten egg-like smell of natural gas, so you can take action anytime you detect even a small amount of this odor in the air.

Other signs of a leak near a gas line include a hissing sound, blowing dirt, bubbling water, and dry spots in moist areas or dead plants surrounded by live, green plants.

Suspect a leak? Take action!

  1. Leave immediately If you ever suspect a natural gas leak. Don’t try to find or stop the leak.
  2. Do not touch anything electrical. Do not use a phone. Do not smoke. Do not turn appliances or lights on or off. Do not operate any vehicle or equipment that could create a spark.
  3. Call 911 immediately once you are out of the suspected area.

Call 911 if you smell gas or hit a gas line while digging.

Call Before You Dig

State law requires that you call 811 so all utility lines can be professionally marked. If you hit an underground utility line while digging, you can harm yourself or those around you.

Excess Flow Valves (EFVs) for Natural Gas Businesses

An excess flow valve is an optional device that can be installed on your natural gas service line. Excess flow valves are designed to automatically restrict your service when the natural gas flow exceeds certain limits.
